OBITUARIO

Teresa del Carmen Torres Zambrano, Teresa de Dueñas, cariñosamente conocida como Tita, falleció tranquilamente a la edad de 89 años el 11 de diciembre de 2022 en el HospitalElmhurst de Queens, en la Ciudad de Nueva York.

Tita nació el 9 de febrero de 1933 en el pequeño pueblo de Pespire, Departamento de Choluteca, Republica de Honduras.

Tita dedicó toda su vida a servir a los demás, a su familia y a su comunidad tanto en Nueva York como en Honduras. Tita fue maestra de contabilidad y matemáticas financieras en varias instituciones secundarias como el Instituto Salesiano María Auxiliadora, Instituto Sagrado Corazón e Instituto Central Vicente Cáceres hasta 1986, cuando se jubiló.

Aún después de jubilada Tita continuó sirviendo incesantemente a los demás, primero en Tegucigalpa ayudando a su hija María Teresa Dueñas Torres con el cuidado y crianza de sus nietos Carlos Abraham, César y Marco Vinicio, y luego en Nueva York ayudando a su otra hija Regina Elizabeth Dueñas Torres con el cuidado y crianza de sus nietos Adriana, José Abelardo y Ruth Marcela.

Tita fue la persona más pura, amable y paciente que la mayoría de nosotros hemos conocido. Tanto es así que su cuñado Regino Quesada la llamaba cariñosamente “Santa Tere”. Tita siempre encontraba maneras de ayudar a los demás y lo hacía con entusiasmo y desinteresadamente, sin atribuirse mérito alguno.

En sus últimos días, Tita estuvo al cuidado de su hija Regina Elizabeth Dueñas Torres y su yerno Daniel Silva, quienes le brindaron una atención excepcional y un amor desinteresado.

Tita siempre encontraba tiempo para mantener contacto con su familia y amigos, ya sea enviándoles cartas y obsequios, haciendo llamadas telefónicas, enviando mensajes de texto oWhatsApp, e incluso comunicándose a través de Facebook. Su prodigiosa buena memoria le permitía recordar los cumpleaños de todos sus familiares y amigos inmediatos, y a menudo llamaba a otros miembros de la familia para pedirles que no olvidaran el cumpleaños del día.

Tita fue talentosa teniendo una hermosa voz de soprano, habilidades para la actuación y recitar poesías. Tita participó activamente en los eventos realizados en los Institutos donde trabajó más tarde en el Coro de la Iglesia de San Bartolomé, el Hospital Elmhurst y el Centro de Adultos Mayores Raices. 

Tita tenía una relación maravillosa con Dios, fue muy bendecida con su fe la cual transmitió a sus hijas, nietas y nietos.

A Tita le precedieron en la muerte sus padres Bonifacia “Carmen” Zambrano y Juan Bautista Torres, su esposo José Cecilio Dueñas Quesada, sus hermanos Enrique y su hija María Teresa.

A Tita le sobreviven sus hermanas María de los Ángeles Torres y Sor María Antonia Torres; su hija Regina, sus nietos Carlos Abraham, César, Adriana, José Abelardo, Marco Vinicio y Ruth Marcela; sus Bisnietos César Alejandro, Franco, Guadalupe, Ávila, Rosalía, Adrián Enrique y Tomás.

Se llevará a cabo un servicio conmemorativo el miércoles 14 de diciembre de 2022 en la funeraria Gerard J. Neufeld (8804 43rdAvenue, Elmhurst, NY 11373) y una misa será celebrada el jueves a las 9:45am en la Iglesia de Santa Juana de Arco (82-00 35th Ave, Queens, NY 11372).

Teresa del Carmen Torres Zambrano, Teresa de Dueñas, “Tita,” passed away peacefully at the age of 89 years on December 11, 2022, at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, New York. 

Tita was born on February 9, 1933, in the small town of Pespire, Choluteca, in Honduras. 

Tita devoted her entire life to serving others, her family, and her community both in New York and in Honduras. She taught at the Instituto Salesiano Maria Auxiliadora, Instituto Sagrado Corazón, and Instituto Central Vicente Cáceres until 1986, when she retired. 

Although retired, Tita incessantly continued to serve others, first in Tegucigalpa helping her daughter María Teresa Dueñas Torres with the care and upbringing of her grandchildren Carlos Abraham, César, and Marco Vinicio, and later in New York helping her other Daughter Regina Elizabeth Dueñas Torres with the care and upbringing of her grandchildren Adriana, José Abelardo, and Ruth Marcela.

Tita was the purest, kindest, and most patient person that most of us have ever met. So much so that her brother-in-law ReginoQuesada affectionately called her “Saint Tere.” Tita always found ways to help others and would do so enthusiastically and selflessly, never taking credit. 

In her last days, Tita was cared for by her daughter Regina Elizabeth Dueñas Torres and her son-in-law Daniel Silva, who provided outstanding care and selfless love. 

Tita would always find time to check on her family and friends, either by sending letters and gifts, making phone calls, sending text messages or reaching out via Facebook. Her prodigious good memory allowed her to remember the birthdays of all her immediate family and friends and would often call other family members asking them not to forget somebody’s birthday. 

Tita was also talented, having a beautiful soprano voice, acting, and reciting skills. She was active in the events performed and the Schools where she worked and later at St. Bartholomew’s Church Choir, Elmhurst Hospital and the Raices Senior center. 

Tita had a long-standing relationship with God and was very blessed with her faith which she passed upon to her daughters and grandchildren. 

Tita was preceded in death by her parents Bonifacia “Carmen” Zambrano, and Juan Bautista Torres, her husband José CecilioDueñas Quesada, her siblings Enrique and her daughter Maria Teresa. 

Tita is survived by her sisters Maria de los Angeles Torres and Sister Maria Antonia Torres; her daughter Regina, her Grandchildren Carlos Abraham, César, Adriana, Jose Abelardo, Marco Vinicio and Ruth Marcela; her Great-Grandchildren César Alejandro, Franco, Guadalupe, Avila, Adrián Enrique, Rosalía and Tomás.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at the Gerard J. Neufeld Funeral Home (8804 43rd Avenue, Elmhurst, NY 11373) and a mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 15 at 9:45am at Sant Joan Arc Church (82-00 35th Ave, Queens, NY 11372).
