Eulogy
A compassionate soul, gentle guide, no nonsense counselor, a most
caring spirit. “Don’t stop praying” her forever lingering echo.
Our mother loved to sing and dance, and extended a helping hand
to whomever, wherever, whenever. At times, when so moved, she
would cook, create individual meal containers and called upon her
son-in-law to transport her to a shelter or church to feed the
homeless. If you encountered her, she made sure you did not leave
without; even at her home.
Known as Mother Ormin to some, she exemplified simplicity,
sacrifice, calm tolerance, and an inexhaustible patience. Always
and in every way she was able, making it a point to be present for
us.
Mom went through so many fires coming through eEach of them
with the affirmation that “God is in control”. Her nature in every
way, calm and controlled. Her final ordeal was journeyed in an
unwavering engulfing calm, tight hand holding, moving to the
beats of songs, and laughing aloud at our antics and silliness.
Whenever my sister visited, they often watched shows, put together
jigsaw puzzles, prayed, held hands (Mom holding tightly), and
hummed. As she ebbed, she would look at me so intently. I would
say, “no worries Mom, God is in control”. She would smile,
close her eyes, and sleep.
Moments with Mom always touched your soul, gently nudging
you onto uprightness and reminding you to say your prayers.
Ormin singly raised Sherry and I. She made all of our
clothing when we were growing up. Not only was she a
devoted mother to us, but to just about everyone in every way.
Our Mom was an English teacher in Grenada, WI,
Secretary in Trinidad, WI, Secretary and Nurse’s Aide
with both an Associates degree and CNA (Nursing Assistant
certification) in New York City. She participated in the
Rosary Society and supported church ministry.
Mom inspired and encouraged self-reliance, respect, and discipline
Psalm 23
The Lord
is my shepherd, I shall
not want. He maketh
me to lie down in green
pastures; He leadeth me
beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul;
He leadeth me in the
paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk
through the valley of
the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil; for
thou art with me; thy
rod and thy staff, they
comfort me. Thou
preparest a table before
me in the presence of
mine enemies; thou
anointest my head with
oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and
mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life;
and I will dwell in the
house of the LORD forever
