With humble acceptance of God’s will we announce the passing of Mohan Rewachand Hiranandani, 89,on Saturday, June 8, 2024 in New York, where he lived with his wife.
Mohan led an incredibly successful life and career as a scientist, entrepreneur, and community activist. He earned his MS degree (Master of Science) in nuclear physics in 1962 from Bombay University of India. His career in the 1950s and 1960s led him to participate with the prototype development of research reactor, the first step in developing atomic energy. Mohan was also involved with the development of the nuclear diffusion chamber which was highly acclaimed by then Prime Minister Nehru of India and appeared on the front page of the Indian Times.
In is journey to the United States in 1968, he continued his career in nuclear physics in the publication sector which led him to start his own company Hira Associates Inc. He was a successful real estate investor and owned several properties throughout New York and New Jersey. He was also an integral part of the Sindhi community and was highly respected because of his kind, giving heart.
Mohan was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Saraswati Hiranandani and Rewachand Hiranandani; brothers Santdas Hira and Hiro Hiranandani; and sisters Rukmani Hiranandani, Ramani Madhavan, Devika Mansukhani, Ratna Hiranandani, and Kamla Hiranandani.
Mohan is survived by his wife of 63 years, Renu Hiranandani; children Sanj Hiranandani (Jaime) and Leena Caligiure (Anthony); 5 grandchildren, Anthony Jai Caligiuri, Joseph Jivan Caligiuri, Anjali Caligiuri, Alexa Vali Hiranandani and Brooke Raena Hiranandani.
Family and friends are invited to funeral services at Gerard J. Neufeld Funeral Home, 88-04 43 Avenue, Elmhurst, NY 11373, at 12pm on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, followed by interment at Fresh Pond Crematory, 61 40 Mt Olivet Crescent, Middle Village, NY 11379.
