Michael Anthony McNamara passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 20, 2026 at
the age of 100 years. He was born in Knocknahannee, Flagmount, County Clare,
Ireland in 1925. He was the youngest of seven children living on the family farm. He
often told stories of his wonderful childhood.
He emigrated to the United States in 1949 and lived with his good friend, Michael
Maloney, in Brooklyn. He served in the US Army during the Korean war and later joined
the NYPD achieving the rank of Detective.
Michael married Bridget Heffernan in 1956 at St. Bartholomew Church where he would
be an usher and active member for 70 years.
He loved time with his family most of all and was thrilled by having visitors to his home
on 51 st Avenue in Elmhurst.
Michael is survived by his wife, Bridget, daughter Eileen (John) Mondello, sons Michael
(Donna), John (Obie), Kevin (Laurie) and Martin (Araceli). He had 15 grandchildren and
7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
