Joseph Kollappallil

Joseph Kollappallil, 90, of Elmhurst, New York passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, November 4, 2024.  He was the loving husband of Pennamma and the devoted father of Teresa, Mary, and George. 

Born in India, Joseph was the eldest son of the late Varkey and Thresiamma.  He studied at St. Mary’s Forane School, Mannanam High School and CMS College. He enjoyed a successful career in sales. In June of 1970, he married Pennamma (Penny). They immigrated to the United States in 1972, and shared 54 years of marriage.

Joseph worked for almost 30 years in New York City at the Pay-O-Matic Corporation. He retired as a senior regional auditor in the year 2000 and enjoyed many more years of adventure and travel together with his wife. 

As a lifelong Elmhurst resident, Joseph was a known fixture in the community he loved. He was an active member of his local parish, St. Bartholomew Church, and his gym, the Long Island City YMCA.  

Joseph Kollappallil is survived by his wife, Penny, his children, Teresa (Ciby), Mary (Darren), and George (Laura), his seven grandchildren (Jacob, Simon, Benjamin, Maya, Olivia, Timothy, and Sabine), his brother, Sebastian, and his sisters, Thankamma, Chinnamma and Kunjamma. He is preceded in death by his brother, George, and sister, Pennamma. He also leaves behind a large, loving, extended family.

His was the very definition of a life well lived.
