It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather Jaime Castaño.
Jaime was born in Belen de Umbria, Risaralda, Colombia to Jose Castaño and Emilia Acevedo on April 20, 1930. He spent his formative years in Medellín, Colombia. Always a hard worker, Jaime always believed in continuing to learn and progressing as far as possible in life. He valued family, friendships, and culture. He loved to travel. The first of his big trips brought him to the United States with his growing family in 1964.
After arriving to the United States, Jaime continued his love of learning and obtained several certificates, including his high school equivalency degree and a certificate in mechanical bookkeeping. This led to his career as a bookkeeper for the state of New York for many years.
Jaime had such a positive outlook on life and an infectious smile to match. Despite many struggles, he always greeted people with good cheer, and bid farewell with a “felíz día.” He kept us all on our toes the last few years of his life, and we will miss him so much.
He is survived by his sisters, Rosalba and Olga, his children, Shirley, Olga Luz, Edwin and John, and his grandchildren, Rachel, Gabriel and Ada. May he rest in peace.
