Eva Rico

The world lost a great person.  Eva Rico, age 86, of Elmhurst, New York went home to God on July 5, 2023.  Eva was born in Sopo, Colombia on February 16, 1937.  She met and married her husband, Jaime Rico, in the early 1960’s and together they emigrated to the United States in search of the American dream.  In New York, Eva flourished both at work and at home.  She spent several years working for and retired from Swingline, the stapler company. As more family members arrived in New York, Eva’s home became the gathering place for family and friends. Her hospitality and generosity were well known. She always made you feel welcome in her home with her enthusiastic hellos and sweet hugs.  There was always a big pot of soup on the stove ready for anyone who dropped by.  She was a skilled cook who made the best empanadas, lasagna, and roast beef for family holidays.

Eva was known as the favorite aunt amongst several of her nieces and nephews. During difficult times, she was a soft pillow to fall on and a salve for life’s difficulties. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, kindness, and generosity.

Eva is survived by her husband, Jaime Rico.  She is also survived by several siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eloisa Arevalo and Pedro P. Arevalo Sanchez and her brother Pedro Arevalo.

El mundo perdió una gran persona. Eva Rico, de 86 años, de Elmhurst, Nueva York, se fue a casa con Dios el 5 de julio de 2023. Eva nació en Sopo, Colombia, el 16 de febrero de 1937. Conoció y se casó con su esposo, Jaime Rico, a principios de la década de 1960 y juntos emigraron a Estados Unidos en busca del sueño americano. En Nueva York, Eva floreció tanto en el trabajo como en el hogar. Pasó varios años trabajando y se retiró de Swingline, la empresa de engrapadoras. A medida que llegaban más miembros de la familia a Nueva York, la casa de Eva se convirtió en el lugar de reunión para familiares y amigos. Su hospitalidad y generosidad eran bien conocidas. Siempre te hacía sentir bienvenido en su casa con sus saludos entusiastas y sus dulces abrazos. Siempre había una olla de sopa en la estufa lista para la visita. Era una habilidosa cocinera que hacía las mejores empanadas, lasaña y rosbif para las fiestas familiares.

Eva era conocida como la tía favorita entre varias de sus sobrinas y sobrinos. Durante los momentos difíciles, ella fue una almohada suave para recostarse y un bálsamo para las dificultades de la vida. Ella deja un legado de amor, compasión, bondad y generosidad.

A Eva le sobrevive su esposo, Jaime Rico. También le sobreviven varios hermanos, sobrinos, primos y muchos amigos. Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Eloisa Arevalo y Pedro P. Arevalo Sanchez y su hermano Pedro Arevalo.
