It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Antonio Diaz or as close family members know him, Bienvenido, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in Jackson Heights, NY.
Antonio was born on March 22, 1935, in the province of Santiago, Dominican Republic, to Manuel De Jesus Diaz and Luz Bertina Collado. There he met his beloved wife, Maria V. Diaz, and began his life as a proud family man. Yearning for a better life for his growing family, he made the decision to emigrate to the United States of America in 1965. After settling in Queens, NY, he brought his wife and young children to plant roots here in the place we call home.
Here in the states, Antonio continued to expand his family and build a supportive community to help him create a life that he could be proud of. Antonio had a sweet tooth and a love for food, presentation, and taste. This preference led him to spend the majority of his work life at the Harmonie Club in Midtown Manhattan where he proudly retired from in 2001. Dad had some funny jokes, and sayings, such as, “Beans and rice, and everything nice.” stemmed from his love of the culinary life. He used it to lighten the room when the air got a little stuffy. This catchy phrase is contagious and we will carry it, recite it, and pass it along the family line.
Antonio B. Diaz was a man of integrity and great responsibility. He always ensured his family was safe and moving in the right direction. He cherished the friendships he developed through the years and always lent a helping hand when needed. He loved putting together all kinds of puzzles, playing cards, and dominoes. He loved listening to music, especially the classic boleros, merengue, and bachata. He also loved his quiet time on his favorite spot on the sofa, watching the news and his favorite TV shows. He was also an avid lover of baseball and a big fan of the Mets.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Diaz, his children, Rose Diaz, Ramona Diaz, Tony Diaz, and Dania Diaz, and his grandchildren, Timothy, Alania, Erte, Aidan, and Salma. May he rest in eternal peace.
